Well, there's no way to check out any CRT monitors before purchase due to the fact that they are no long sold in stores (except for small curved surface Compaq CRT monitors).
So, I have to rely soley on recommendations from people here. What monitor would you recommend?
I currently have a Sony Trinitron E400. The quality is very bad now, so anything would probably look better. However, it was a good monitor at one point.
Here's what I would prefer:
Flat screen (no curved surface). I've heard that the NEC Diamondtron is the best (better even than the Trinitron); supposedly it's a better picture and is flat both vertically and horizontally; is this true? (BTW, my trinitron looks flat both vertically and horizontally, so this statement doesn't make sense to me.)
Useage:
Video, games, graphics work, coding (text). All of these uses, potentially very often.
Knowing some of the strengths and weakness of CRTs, I won't have to worry about things like response time for games and video. The only issues is to be sure that the picture is sharp, doesn't experience much moire, doesn't experience other issues like ghosting, and has good color. I prefer to run at a refresh rate of 100, though 85 is probably acceptable -- I have not checked which is ideal.
1600x1200.32bit @ a minimum of 85hz at that resolution
