Hi all

A rather nice client of mine decide to create a Hardware Profile and then
delete it - since then he has not been able to shutdown or re-start his
Dell D400 Latitude Laptop running XP Pro SP2. The Laptop goes through the
shutdown
process then hangs and you basicly have no control of anything. You have
to hold the on/off key in to turn the whole thing off. You can shutdown via
SafeMode though.

I have trawled through many sites and have come up with nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Karlos

I had a user with a similar problem. I ran sfc /scannow and it fixed it. One
thing though. If sfc needs to copy files from the CD and the CD has SP1 on
it, you must reinstall SP2 and possibly other patches.

Do search on Google or Microsoft for using the sfc command before attempting.
