I've been having trouble with the plextor. I tried to update the firmware but it errors out with: System Error (win32): code 1117. Does win XP not like the plextor. Does anyone know how I screwed the set up. I couldn't get it to work with the supplied soft ware (Roxio Lite) nor will it work with the full version of Nero 6 ultra. It can't see the media. I've tried these so far Fuji, Memorex, Maxell, Ridata, Verbatim, Office Depot, Prime Periferals, and Imation...no-see-um...Tried new install...same story. Maybe doesn't like the rig?

Try upgrading the nV IDE drivers for your motherboard - some nForce2 drivers are known to have problems with some CD/DVD drives.

Will it read CDs and or DVDs?

How old is it?

It's not even 6 mos. old...it reads both cd's and dvd's

I'd return it - sounds like a bad drive.

Just for reference I have the PX-708A updated to the 1.07 firmware under WinXP with no problems at all, so you can rule out XP as the problem.

Hey Stroker...what software do you use...Have you had any luck with the free ones you D/L online....PS I think I have a bad drive, I got the 1.07 upgrade and it still can't see media??

Have you tried different Nvidia drivers, as suggested? As was said, the Nvidia IDE drivers are known to be problematic.

I use Nero 6 for pretty much all burning. DVD X copy for the odd DVD movie backup.

Haven't tried any freeware.

Yeah..I think I said somewhere I moved up to nforce ide driver 1.07...still can't see media...I think like someone said bad drive...it happens even with top line stuff from time to time
