im planning on getting a lcd monitor. i have a budget of about 200 dollars give or take. im hoping for a widescreen. i currently have a crt monitor from like '99 and its max resolution is 1280x960. its a 17 inch but only 15 inch viewable. so i definitely am looking for a good one to tie me over. i was looking at the dell monitors but i have no idea what to get. ne suggestions?

If you get a widescreen, you might also need a new video card. Older cards didn't support modern widescreen resolutions.

ANY 19" or 20" which fits within your budget will be just fine. They will all have TN panels, all have similar display quality, be low relative cost and good for gaming. Suggest you go for one with a 3-year warranty, however. Many have only 1-year.

That's new enough. Should be fine for any monitor.
