Alright, I have a plextor 708a, and I can burn dvd's. But everytime i put a normal cd or cd-r in the drive, it fails to recognize it and gives me an Input/Output error whenever i try to "explore" the drive.
I have the latest firmware. Device manager recognizes the drive perfectly. I'm running windows xp pro and have another cd-rw drive that runs fine.

I had the same deal...I finally bought an NEC and gave the Plex to my son. The NEC works for me The 708A works great with a chip set it likes. Mine was nForce2 and he has Via

well, i think it is working at least for a second. I just installed the bundled software through the 708a, so I guess it's reading a normal cd...who knows how long it will keep working.

LOL...My board too! I hope you have better luck than I did. I couldn't even drag photos to the disk. It would go 50% and an error message would pop-up...100% of the time. My son's PC has an Iwill Mobo with via chipset and the plex does everything asked of it...go figure
