quick question about reformating partitions...

ive read up on fdisk and i cant delete the primary partition without deleting the secondary partitions. the primary partition (50% of the HDD) has my OS on it and i want that one reformatted. is there another way to do this? according to fdisk, i have to reformat the whole thing!

You do not use fdisk to format partitions. You use it to create and delete partitions.

Boot from a floppy and simply type:

format c:

and it'll format that partition.

s signature has been formatted to fit your scr

You can "reformat" any partition as long as it is not the Boot partition any number of ways under Win2K/XP:
1. Windows Explorer ... right click left pane partition ID (D:, E:, etc.) and simply choose format.
2. Use command console (if you've installed it), enter diskpart <return> and up pops the fdisk replacement permitting a partition format. #1 above is easier.
3. Boot to Win install CD. After initial code load you are presented with options to install new or repair existing installation. Choose repair and then invoke command console.
