I have a Sony Vaio notebook and have been running windows vista home premium and when I turn on my computer the vaio sign comes up and then after that it says "operating system not found" on a black screen.

Go into the BIOS and make sure your hard disk is detected, then check that the notebook is actually set to boot from the disk.
