I am looking at building my pc for the first time. For the memory I was looking to see if there was some kind of guide here for what is better, etc. I saw one for CPU's and it was very helpful and was wondering if there was one similar but for memory. If not, does anyone have any recomendations. What type? DDR SDRAM, SDRAM, RDRAM or others. And what specific ones within that type do you recomend? I am looking at getting 1 GB. I am also thinking about a Athlon 64 3400+ with 1MB of L2 Cache.
Thanks

You may find this presentation by corsair (memory manufacturing company) helpful in understanding the basics. From there, you can find on many sites (cpu and ram manufacturers, and enthusiast's forums) that will recommend ram for the cpu/motherboard you choose.

I had a link discussing the significance/meaning of ram timings, but can't seem to find it now. If I can locate it L8, I'll post back. Hope this helps you

EDIT: Here is an academic paper on ddr ram, proprably too indepth, but there is a discussion on diff between sdram and ddr dram in the beginninghttp://www.ccs.neu.edu/course/com3200/parent/NOTES/DDR.html

The corsair link above doesn't want to work, I'll try again. Failing that, cut and paste
