So I boot up my comp using the XP boot CD and I want to format my HD. I get about 25% done then I get a blue screen error.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Theproblem seems to bbe caused by the following file: partmgr.sys

DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS

If this is the first time... blah blah blah

So.....how to rectify this situation.

For tasks like reformating, LL format, creating partions I use the free tools provided by the HD manufacturer. I particularly like Maxblast, but you need a Maxtor HD (somewhere in ur system) to use it.

Check out the website of ur HD manufacturer and see if they have some freeware you can use.
