Over the last week or so, each time I try to run AVG antivirus
programme (Free Ed.) it eventually locks up the entire system and
I have to hit the re-boot button and re-start. I've tried
uninstalling and re-installing, deleting as many of the old files
as I could find before re-installing. I've tried installing
PandaSoftware antivirus (came with the system, but I prefer AVG)
and it does the same thing, runs through the process with no
hitches until about 15 - 17 mins, then locks up the system.
Please don't tell me to change or discard the programmes in
favour of something else. AVG has been an excellent systems
monitor over the last 6 or 7 years for two separate computers
(Win98 & WinXP). I know it works, and I can't afford to buy most
of the my software, so finding something as good as AVG has been
a godsend. The basic question is, how do I check my system for
worms, trojans, virii, or just plain out of date and possibly
corrupted files that might be affecting the anti-virus
programme's ability to do their jobs. Is this common, is it
easily fixed, or at least diagnosed?
I'll keep track of your responses. Thanks.
