im trying to delete every program on my system related to SQL server, i keep
getting hit with ms02-039 which freezes my puter for a few days everytime, i
thought that if i can get rid of SQl server files, i will stop being annoyed
by that, i found that i had resoruce tool kits for server 2003, deleted it, i
have xp-pro for home use, not running a server. i may have mistakenly
downloaded updates for server and want to be sure i remove them all, was
hoping that the uninstall folder will let me know what is in my system so i
can find a way to remove any unwanted programs, im a newbie, just guessing at
this, thanks

Hi

Which particular program(s) do you wish to uninstall? Most are listed in
Add/Remove Programs. It is accessed via:

Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.

However, not all installed programs may be listed there.

Are you asking about uninstall files?
There are hidden files that all start with a $ sign.. Those are uninstall
files for updates, patches, etc, and can be removed. However, once those
uninstall files have been removed, you will not be able to uninstall some of
those patches, etc. Sp2, for example. If you uninstall the 'uninstall'
files..you can't remove SP2 from your computer.
Those files can, and do, take up a lot of space on your computer, but you
want to be sure that you really want to delete them .
You can probably save them to a disk/cd for future use, but I'm not sure
about that.

Hi

The uninstall files can be named uninstall.exe or unwise.exe or any name.
Files that start with a $ can be temporary files.

Hi

If you are running XP Pro, how have you managed to accumulate SQL Server
files? Just tell the 02-039 update that you don't want it - hide it.
Although Server 2003 somehow has updated itself with an XP Pro update here!!

You'll have to try and uninstall all the SQL Server updates via Add/Remove
Programs in the first instance.

http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spack.htm save space after installing
updates.

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxServicePackUninstallUninstall.htm service pack
uninstall.
I was inferring incorrectly from the OP that he was looking for the folder
containing those files..the wording had me slightly confused.

out what is related to server's to find a way to remove said programs, maybe
i was mistaken but i thought that was what i asked about, how to find that
folder. thanks

here is a rather lengthy article..however, the version you had installed
previously is not the same as the article describes.
I guess you could try a couple of things...
First, on your add/remove programs page, do you have 'show all updates'
selected? It's located near the top of the page.
You can also try to do a search of your registry for SQL... but make sure to
backup first, as there is, I think a SQL type file in Windows Office...make
you search for the right thing.
You can use the Start>search feature to look for those files as well.

Anyway..the article,
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-039.mspx

The files I was referring to are not used for uninstalling programs..but
rather removing the files needed to uninstall those patches, etc, so don't
delete any of the files that I mentioned earlier.

The link was meant to provide some basic info regarding the ms patch update
you keeping being notified about. I know it was for an update that you don't
want, but the rest of the information seemed useful.
I guess, if it was my computer, I would make a backup, then delete the
files, but then, I don't have anything important on my computer.
There is a program I like, called RegSeeker that can be used to search for
files that you want to delete, but all other measures failed to remove all
the files. You can download and install it from The Major Geeks. It's a
Freeware version, and if you like it enough you can always but the Full
version.
I would suggest searching for ' SQL Server version number' as your search
terms, as well as the specific files you mentioned.
