After putting the latest bios on my ASUS A7V8X mother board and reinstalling windows 2000, the whole system freezes whenever I install the drivers for my Creative SB Live 5.1 Platinium...

Creative support hasn't been much help, so I am selling that card and getting a new one.

Here comes the question: what card should I get, when I am going to use it for:
1) Gaming
2) DVD/DivX movies
3) Music (mp3)

I think stability is a virtue. I also would like the card not to take too much of the cpu time.

I have been looking at these models (so that you know what price range I am looking in):

-Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS
-AudioTrak Prodigy 7.1
-AudioTrak Prodigy 192
-Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space
-M-Audio Revolution 7.1

Maybe the problem did not arise from the sound card.
I wonder whether there is something wrong with the ASUS mainboard.

I really like my Guillemot Game Theatre XP 7.1. Great sound in all applications, especially music. In games, hardware acceleration works fine in place of EAX for directional sound (never had a problem not knowing where someone was, could always hear them coming), and for DVDs it's a little quiet but doesn't have much feedback when you turn up the volume.

Of the choices you listed, the Revo 7.1 is my favorite followed by the Aureon 7.1 Space. The Revo would be my pick for an internal do-it-all sound card, my GTXP 7.1 for external, and RME for pure sound reproduction without effects processing.
