I'm planning on building a new system and I want to add a DVD burner so I can play my home movies on my Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player. From what I've gathered, it plays the DVD-R format the best. I'm thinking from what I've seen that the NEC ND-2510A would be a good buy and do what I need. Does anyone disagree? I plan on using it in conjunction with an ABIT KV8-MAX3 mo-board.

Also, what is "Dual layer"?

Whic format is better? DVD-R or DVD+R? Will my DVD player play both?

Thanks in advance!

Most DVD players will read both +R and -R. As for which one is better, AFAIK, DVD-R is compatible with more devices.

Dual Layer holds 2x (9.4GB) the data.

As for what brand of burner, check the review of DVD burners on THG, see how it performs.
