i have an old lcd screen from my hp omnibook laptop (8 years old). is it possible for me to find a pinout for it and use it as an extra tv screen and use a composite video output on a tv or cable box, cut and splice into a couple wires coming out of the screen? (and figure out which wires are used for power as well)? would it be as simple as finding 4 wires? (+,-,and 2 wires for video)? thanx for the input

It can be done. I doubt there's documentation on it...but, good luck. I've never known anyone to do it.

you've got quite a bit of work ahead of you.

no you can't each screen has either 30pin or 20 pin socket. there's no way to convert that and make it display what you want, the screen for laptop has to be connected to a vga chipset which controls each pin. don't bother...

It was engineered to work the way it was - it can be engineered to work a different way.

It's just a lot of work. Don't rain on a good hackaday article's beginnings!

If you haven't checked hackaday for a project similar to this I would.
