Old monitor problem

I have this old 14 inch monitor I'm trying to get to work. I can turn it on without pluging it in and the screen lights up. But as soon as I plug it into anything, the entire screen goes black. I looked at the plug and theres one pin thats doing this whenever its connected with another pin or the edge of the plug. What happens if I remove this one pin thats making the whole screen go black? =/
