Win 7 wont update

Seems I cannot update my windows anymore. Would anyone have some tips that are better than theses? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997
Also I have extremely slow startups. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes where the computer is just frozen at loading screen or desktop where no icons will load and i cannot click on anything.
Any advice would help.
