I need a new system and have an idea of what I want but........... should i build it or buy it off the shelf? I can get a
Gateway

HP

or something similar to what i want for under $900.00! Or can I build it for less with an OS? I dont know if the links I put in worked but both systems are at BestBuy!

Too many sections on tomshardware...

Gather the parts and have the guys build it for you if you can't build it, I prefer building your own, but that's because I got tons of free parts free and only had to upgrade certain parts, so upgrading was way cheaper.

I tend to think that for PC's priced under $1000 or so, it's really hard to beat some of the storebought options, though you certainly could with a little effort and smart shopping. The advantages off storebought include a warranty and the ability to return a product you're not satisfied with. On the other hand, building your own can be very educational and rewarding. You also tend to get longer warranties on individual components than pre-assembled PC's. ( 1 versus 3 years typically). Just do what makes the most sense for you.

I agree and would like to add that researching the prices is a great idea, such as finding out what parts come with the pre-built, researching those prices and comparing them to buying the part individually.
