my unit does not recognise the DVD burner. Is this a common problem?

bad dvd, or not connected. or drivers not install via add hardware option

Define 'not recognize' - does it detect a drive, but it's not a DVD-RW? Does it not find any drive? Does it find the DVD-RW, but can't access it?

There's a registry fix that's kind of easy to force your machine to recognize a random DVD or CD rom into a writer.
