120gb hdd but can only see 112gb

Hi I have a western digital 120gb hdd but I can only see 112gb's. I know that some space is used up by formatting and what not but 8gb's seems a bit excessive. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be much appreciated.

I know it seems to be a bit off that's why i asked. I read the FAQ but it still seem to be a bit to much to be missing even if i take into count the way the computer counts with 1 = 1024

120GB = 120 000mb, 120 000/1024 = 117.1875

So i should only be missing around 3gb's so where is the rest gone.

That's right, it's 1024 bytes to the killobyte, 1024 killobytes per megabyte, and 1024 megabytes per gigabyte.
