Gamma Screwy

When I start up a game it boosts the gamma way up there. The gamma is fine in the game, but when I quit the game the desktop is unreadably bright The only way to fix it is to go to video options and set it back to default. Any way to stop this? This happens with all games (radeon 9700 pro)
