i was wondering if this was a good laptop for gaming, just simple stuff not like crysis but more along the lines of tf2...valve games.

Yea that is pretty nice and will definitely run those games fine even crysis (though not maxed out), but I would go with the gateway FX for just a bit more.
Its not going to be a huge difference, slightly better video card (with 1GB as well), slightly faster processor; but the screen resolution is muchhhh better. That alone would be a selling point for me.

That said the asus is still a nice machine with some extra intangibles (like the secondary keyboard LCD if that matters to you)

so for gaming wise you think i should go for the gateway fx. I agree its seems alot nicer with the screen size.

Which would be an all around better laptop, and be able to do a good job gaming. The Gateway FX P-7805u or the new Dell Studio XPS 16. They are both at Best Buy, and close in price. Is that ATI card in the Dell any good for gaming? My teenage boys want to be able to do some gaming on this laptop purchase and I want to be able to use it as a 2nd computer in the house. I liked the Dell for the the lighted keyboard, faster CPU, upgradeable memory, blu ray, but the Gateway seems to be better for gaming. Help this mom please.... I am tired of researching and looking.

If your sons are going to be using it most of the time for gaming, the I would say get the Gateway. If it's good for gaming it makes sense it will be good for other basic multi-tasking :) http://seoagora.com/img/3251/m08t1014gybg/23.gifhttp://www.seoagora.com/img/459/k08q1024glza/ecstatic.gif
