Assuming the hard drives in a computer are similar to those in a TIVO capable DVR or satellite receiver, do the units in the TIVO boxes require defragmentation after a period of long or heavy use? I assume recorded programs are added and deleted the same as files on a computer hard drive. If so, how does one perform this maintenance???
From what I can glean about my DIRECTV TIVO unit, the only option is to reformat the hard drive.
Most pvrs like Tivo have software built right on the drives that help defrag. If it acts up you can always buy a replacement. If your looking for Tivo drives check out www.thepvrsource.com. I think it's the only place in Canada where you can buy Tivo and Tivo drives.
