Need to get my head around mobile CPU's

Hi,
Im looking at a laptop to get the wife off my system. I have asked about GPU's and now would like some help with the CPU side of things.
Basically im getting confused with all the prefixes. Toms chart is very limited and the notebook checker chart is just all over the place, you cant readily compare models.
So can anyone link me to a decent comparison or at least give me a heads up on whats what.
Im looking for a core2 or dual core at least. Also do the performance differances between AMD and Intel transfer to notebooks ? Is a core 2 generally better than a Turon and where does a standard dual fit in.
