I am upgrading my PC to be able to do video editing. The question is, Other than larger and faster HDDs and possibly processor and more RAM, can I get away with my 9600Pro and purchase a video capture card instead? If so, can anyone recommend a good brand? Thanks for the help.

Hauppauge has video capture cards with HARDWARE MPEG2 COMPRESSION in the WinPVR series of cards. They're a bit pricey, but the hardware compression takes the load of converting analog video into usauble media formats away from the CPU.

You should look at the msi tv @nywhere card. It's cheap (50-60$). It can capture from svideo and componant in. In addition to mpeg 1-2 it also has encode on on the fly mpeg 4 encoding. This card does a lot of stuff for a low price. As far as the 9600, you should be good with that but I would stay away from 256 memory as I've heard that they're not worth it. Good luck.

AMD ME??? Yeah they did me alright.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on keeping the 9600 Pro for as long as possible as I do not want to do a Major upgrade till PCI-E and prices for 64 bit processors come down some (basically sometime next year). I'll look inot the MSI card and the Hauppage as mentioned earlier.
