Im looking for what size monitor is probably going to work best with two SLI 8800 GTX's, I currently have a 20.1 Dell LCD which I love but Im hearing that if you play in 1600x1200 with most games the SLI will be waisted.

If I bump up the resolution on my monitor A: will it look dumb as its not the native resolution of my monitor (I cant check it currently cause my current GPU doesn't support anything higher than 1600x1200) and B: will 1600x1200 resolution be really slow and a waist for twin 8800 GTX's?

If I go with a different LCD, can anybody suggest any good ones that have a higher native resolution? Im not sure i like widescreen ones though, games look better in regular format for the most part, except for like Oblivion IMO.

I think you're confused on some things...

First off, almost all video cards support >1600x1200. The max resolution for the 8800 GTX is like 2560x1600.

Next... It's you monitor that's not capable of anything higher than 1600x1200, not ur GPU.

If you go w/ a different LCD, you need to get something in the 22 inch size. Most 21 LCD's have a native res of 1600x1200 as well. So go w/ 22 or 24 inches. 24 inches is ideal. Also, widescreen is increasing popular and cheaper in some cases. You'll find that 22 and 24 inch screens are cheaper in widescreen than 4:3. So my suggestion is to go w/ widescreen or 16:9.

Also, for the most part, SLI w/ 8800 GTX's is a waste if you're at 1600x1200 with current and older games. HOWEVER... newer games will be more demanding so... 1600x1200 isn't a total loss.

some other suggestions:
* turn up all the eyecandy on your games: max aa, max aniso, trilinear filtering, etc...
* consider a second 20" monitor and running dualscreen
