In general, no. Some software has a speed setting, mostly
media players (e.g. Real Player...), but will work anyway.
Otherwise, check under IE Tools|Options|Connections. Should
be set to use LAN and no proxy under the Advanced... button.
Check also the TCP/IP settings for the LAN connection. It
should be set to obtain an IP and DNS from the server, and
alternate settings should be empty. These are typical
settings anyway.
If you are using a firewall, it may (or not) require some
tweaking, but typically will work anyway.
