i bought meself a Vantec aluminium memory heat spreader for my double sided ddr mem stick.

http://www.thecoolingshop.com/product_info.php/cPath/32...

the problem is that the metal clip doesnt tighten it and therefore the head spreader keeps coming off when put the case in normal position.

try taking the clip off and squeezing it together tight, then re-installing it.

Not really, you can't put tape inside the heat spreaders because tape won't transfer the heat. Taping the outisde, probably isn't going to keep good pressure on the chips, and depending on what tape you use, will insulate spreaders, keeping them from cooling properly.

I believe there is a thermal adhesive, maybe someone else here on the board can advise on whether or not this is a good ideal or not.

If you can find it, you can use thermal tape on any side that has chips. Thermal tape is metalic, but the tops of the chips aren't contacting any circuits, so that's OK. If your module has one side with chips and one side without, you'd use thermal tape only on one side.
