i was wondering if there were drivers for the gateway fx 7805u laptop that could lower the temps of the gpu? or in general if drivers lower the temps and how?

They might, but not really by any effective amount. Probably max 1 or 2 degrees.

Have you tried cleaning out the heatsinks and fans with compressed air?
