I am buying a new DVD/CD-RW and am comparing the following drives at Newegg.com. It seems a lot of people like the 832S, so I was wondering which people would suggest out of the two below. I doubt I will ever use a double sided DVD disk anytime soon, so my main needs are (1) stability/compatibility (2) speed/performance (3) writing to CDRs (4) Watching DVD movies. Are there other advanted to the 832S or any pitfalls to the 1213s I am missing? It seems the 1213 is slightly faster (but not noticably).

Recommendations (or other suggestions) under the $100 range appreciated :)

get the 832. DVD burn times don't scale proportionally, because 12x is the FASTEST it spins, towards the end of the burn. 8x should be fine, and you have the option of dual layer when it becomes affordable.
