Hi, Guys:

I want to buy a large hard drive for storage some video and music files. I am interested in the 200GB or 250GB, but i have no idea which one is better concerning about the quality, Maxtor or Western digital? You suggestions are needed. Thank you!

I think it is mainly a matter of opinion. Some people prefer one over the other, and they both will occasionally have a bad drive.

Personally I prefer Western Digital, seems like many people think the same way.

Never had a problem with WD, but I've had a few maxtors crap out on me now.
Same here.

I have a Seagate 200G and have been happy with it. It runs really quiet. Western Digital drives tend to have a whining noise.

I think Hitachi drives are better than anything. Very fast and quiet.

Check this deal out on Tiger Direct. WD 200 GB SATA for $100.

I have a few WD's and I have been very pleased with their performance and reliability. I still have a 1994 WD, chugging with only a 850 MB drive.

I've used both WD and Maxtor, and have found both brands to be equally reliable.

Or non-reliable in certain cases.
