Hi,

Currently, I have one 256 DDR Ram (not sure of manufacturer). I just ordered a new OCZ 512 DDR Ram. The question is ... Can i use both memories at the same time? Since OCZ mem is dual-channel ram with low latency (lower than my old 256 ddr ram), i'm concerned if i can just use OCZ mem with my old mem.

You can use both chips, but you will be limited speed of the slowest chip. When you say dual channel memory, do you mean it is a two pack, or just that it is dual channel compatiable?

i mean it's dual channel compatible. i ordered 1 stick 512mb memory so that i could have more spare slots on motherboard. (just have three slots on MB)

Shouldn't be a problem, and as a side note, if your board supports dual channel, its a big performance boost.

If he only has 3 slots he probably has an AMD rig. There isn't much of a boost (3%) with dual-channel and AMD.

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

My benchmarking scores jumped quite a bit with my AMD machine when dual channel is enabled. (But, even if it is 3%, I'll take it, already had two ram chips, might as well been dual channel  )

But his board probably doesn't support it.
