ok so i'm just shopping around on a possible laptop to purchase for gaming, multitasking, and other things. i have no price tag and i was wondering, which laptop would be better for gaming, the alienware m17x or the alienware m17.
i can't find benchmarks on either and i wanted to know how either one perform on games such as Empire total war, GTA4 and Crysis.
thanks :]

Honestly, I wouldn't touch Alienware with a 10ft pole. But, since you didn't ask for that I'll answer your question.

As a base configuration, the M17 with a 3870 smokes the M17x with dual 8600 cards. The 8600M GT's were a joke in terms of performance and are not worth considering. Same goes with the 8700. That leaves you with the option for dual 9800's and at $850, you have got to be kidding me. IMO, the M17 even with dual 3870's is the far better deal.

If you want a recommendation for a different system, take a look at Sager/ Clevo notebooks from either sagernotebook.com or xoticpc.com.

I got the top config of the M17:
Double ATI HD3870, QX9300, 8Gb RAM, 1Tb RAID 0, all options, some €4984.

Am sure it beats the M17x, heehehhe... what do you think?? Will get it in a couple of days...

Desktop : Selfbuilt : Intel Core i7 965@3886Mhz on Asus X58 P6TDeluxe, 6x2048Mb 1600 Tri DDR3, 2 ATI HD4870X2, 2x300Gb RAID 0 SAS, 2x128GB RAID 0 SSD, BE06LU10 Blu-Ray Burner, NEC DVD Burner, ViewSonic VX2835wm 27"FullHD in an Aurora Box, FOCAL XS Audio, WACOM Intuos 3, Sidewinder X6...

Nothing better than an i7... even a 920 or 940 is enough

Depends on how the M17x is configured. Single GTX280, then yeah maybe. SLI 280's then no.

It wont beat M17x because a single GTX 280M equals a destkop 9800GTX and a HD 3870 is like a 8800MGTX which is like Desktop 8800GTS (old version),so even in some games 1 GTX 280M beats 2 HD 3870s and in some games 2 HD 3870s in.

€4984 FOR a laptop !!!! either AW M17 full configed or Sager 9850 beat that laptop and will cost lower.

Also judging from how u typed,it seems u are telling everyone that u have the best notebook/desktop out there and there isn't any thing better than what u have right ?

For those that are ok for 18.4 display I think the Sager 9850 is the beast! Great quality build and a super streamline look!
