Hello,

The screen on my laptop got cracked recently and I was thinking about replacing it my self.

The laptop is a Sony VAIO PCG_XR1Z/BP (14.1" screen). I took out the broken screen and found out it was a HITACHI TX36D85VC1CAB 14.1" XGA screen (1024x768 pixels).

What I'd like to know is do I have to get exactly the same screen to replace the broken one? Or can I replace it with any 14.1" XGA screen? Or if all 14.1" XGA screens are not compatible how can I tell which will be compatible?

Ideally I'd like to but the screen on ebay or somewhere for not too much as it's an old laptop and I don't want to spend too much money to repair it.

thanks for your time,
kirian
