I'm planning to replace my CRT monitor and thought why not add a bit to it and buy an LCD, it's compact and looks good. While I'm at it why not replace my standard TV along with it and thought to just buy 1 that can do both. But before I go out and choose one. I got some questions
1.) My primary problem with plasma is the lifespan. I searched around and discovered that LCDs have limited lifespan too. But I could not find any site that gives how long unlike plasma. So how long is an LCDs lifespan? An estimate (in hours if it's like plasma if possible) would be great.
I've read about refresh rates in TVs and such. While this might not be a problem for most where everything should be standardized, I on the other hand watch movies and play games from different regions.
2.) I don't have problems with CRT TVs (I can play US/Japan games(probably PAL too, but I can't recall any game that PAL got first before US or JAP) and watch movies(PAL I assume since I'm located in Asia) just fine) , but how would LCDs fare especially with the different refresh rates?
3.) With all the different resolutions out, I heard that LCDs can scale them. Do all of them do this or is this a feature only inherent in high-end LCDs?
4.) What about refresh rates? Will these be scaled too? Can I watch 30 fps videos on a 60 fps LCD TV? What about playing games, will I be capped at 60 fps or can they go higher as long as the software and PC hardware allows?
4.) Would what I'm thinking (use the same TV/Monitor for my PC and movie watching and console playing) be feasible technically? what problems would we be looking at if I go this way? I'm assuming I can just buy an adaptor for the connection if the TV does not inherently allow a direct port for the PC.
