Is it ok to have a laptop tethered to AC? I did this with a Toshiba and the battery eventually failed even though I rarely drained it. Toshiba advised that the unit should only be connected to the AC when in need of a recharge. If I want to run it from AC then I am supposed to remove the battery. That means it is always intended to go through a complete charge/discharge cycle. Just because it is a laptop doesn't mean you can't use it on the desktop, imho...

As long as you discharge the battery completely at least once a month, it should have a long, happy life.
