Hey i was wondering which would be best to buy for my sister because she is going to Europe for a year sailing around on tallships as an Australian ambassador and i wanted to give her a really nice present. Which would be the best choice for performance and quality?

Try the cameras at the store before you buy, It would give you feel of how comfortable they are to use. And check the parts availability and cost of having optional hardware like extra memory cards, and battery if comes a time to replace them.
