Desktop PC runs XP Pro SP2
notebook runs XPHome SP2
Windows firewall turned off in both
File sharing enabled
Ethernet wired connection through Linksys router WRT54G/W.
I want to be able to use both wired and wireless network but for now I
am concentrating on wired.
Both computers can connect to internet.
Desktop PC connects via cable modem
computer names are different on desktop and notebook
I can ping from notebook to desktop
wireless connection in notebook sees network workgroup

Navigating to "My Network Places" on the desktop PC only shows that one
under "view my workgroup computers." When I "view workgroup computers
on the laptop, I get an error message that says lists my home network
by name and says it "is not accessible. You might not have permission
to use this network resource. Contact the admin of this server to find
out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this
workgroup is not currently available."

Simple File sharing off on both?
