should I get more ram?

hi all
I was wondering if it would be worth getting another 512 stick of pc3200 for my pc. I play games like farcry and doom3 and they take a while to load. how much would I benefit with more ram would I be able to put the quality settings higher?

I've noticed the difference in 512mb to a gig in the diablo 2 days.
But.. i hate farcry so i can't tell ya. and i've always had a gig since the diablo 2 days.
If i had to put someone elses child on it i would.

Yes, you will see a difference in FarCry. As well as Doom 3 and HL2 when its released.

Have been using 'cacheman' to monitor peak memory usage in games.

In Far Cry, I'm seeing peak usage of over 500mb all the time, over 600mb fairly often, over 700mb occassionally and over 800mb a couple of times.
This is at 1187x864, medium detail with couple of gfx options turned down.

Interestingly, I have yet to see much near 600mb peak usage in Doom 3. ( 1024x768 low detail )

UT2K4 is always over 500mb, usually over 600, sometimes more with some maps. ( 1152x864 gfx at max )

Its checking this peak usage with cacheman after gaming that showed me my 512mb was maxing out... so I added 512 more, and it's well worth it... I will never run less than 1024mb of memory in a game rig again.
