Ausigy 2 & XP GTA 3 reverts 2 Quadraphonic

I have recently upodated my system from my crappy 10GB Windows ME system 2 a new 160GB running Windows XP. However when playing GTA 3 whilst framerate has increased incedibly on my Tnt2 the sound has severe problems when playing on my Audigy 2. On Windows ME when I had the speaker setting on EAX 3 More than 2 Speakers I used 2 get full 6.1 sound from my 6.1 speakers. However in XP with the speakers on EAX 3 More than Speakers GTA 3 reverts my speaker settings to 4.1. How can I tell GTA 3 to use the 6.1 speakers when in EAX 3 More than 2 speakers mode. I keep tryin to change the speaker settings in control panel once the game is launched but the game just overrides the settings once I restore the game. I have even downloaded the 1.1 patch but it still keeps reverting to 4.1!! It seems a great waste to have 6.1 speakers in 4.1 mode!!!
