My 19" has a small dark blotch near the top and a larger one near the middle. When I turn off the screen they disappear, so they can't be smudges. It's almost like the brightness in these areas is significantly lower than the rest of the screen. They are still hardly noticeable but get annoying sometimes. Does anyone know what this is and how I can fix it?

Possibly dead/dying pixels. If thats the case then no, there isn't much you can do. I may be wrong so wait for more replies before jumping to conclusions. You may be able to take it to an electronics store to be looked at, though they might say the same thing just to get your money.

I don't think they are dying, just the brightness is lower and they stand out more at certain angles.
