Im currently planning on buying a new computer, but when it comes to hardware, well, lets just say I have no idea what im talking about :)

Anyways, the system im looking at atm is:

Amd 64 FX-53 (Socket 939)
Asus A8V Deluxe mobo

The hypertransport bus on the cpu runs at 1000mhz, so id like to get memory as fast as that, but the motherboard only supports up to DDR400 - is this a problem?.

Is it possible to use DDR500 with that motherboard, and will it run faster then DDR400?

Keep in mind im a newbie when it comes to hardware, so im not really sure if what I just said makes any sense :)

Im also not planning on overclocking as I know nothing about it, what I want is to get the best gaming system out there atm.

What memory should I choose? DDR400 or 500? What brand? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance

The hypertransport bus doesnt have anything to do with your memory speed.

Faster than DDR400 is only used for overlocking so dont bother looking anything over that if your not overclocking will be useless.(altough getting slightly faster ram and running is slower : DDR433 running at DDR400 can sometimes add some stability)

Get Crucial Ballistix Pc3200 or OCZ Pc3500 EB. Best memory for your A64.

And BTW if you dont plan on overclocking the FX53 s939 is also useless get a A64 3500+ / A64 3800+ youll save some money and youll have identical performance!

Asus P4P800DX, P4C 2.6ghz@3.25ghz, 2X512 OCZ PC4000 3-4-4-8, Leadtek FX5900 w/ FX5950U bios@500/1000, 2X30gig Raid0

Thanks for your response, I had a long chat with a friend today who explained me how most of the system works.

I came to the conclusion that im most likely going to buy Crucial Ballistix PC3200 and im still going with the AMD64 FX-53, atleast that way, I have the option of overclocking it, ones I understand how that works :D

Thanks again for your reply.
