Hello all, I am new here and would like to pose the following question:

I want to replace my desktop, which is 4 years old. I am looking at laptops, to save space in the Dining Room, by getting rid of the desk and the tower computer.

I have kind of narrowed it down to the following, but not 100% sure about that either.

HP Pavillion DV7-1270ca
HP Pavillion DV7-1223ca

The 1270 is a Intel Centrino machine and the 1223 is an AMD Turion machine.
There is about a $250 difference.
I am not sure how the AMD compares to the Intel in regards to speed and performance.
There doesn't seem to be much difference between the two, but I guess I would like to know if the extra $250 is worth it or are there better machines in this price range or cheaper.

The 1270 has the following that the 1223 does not:
The microprocessor cache is 2 MB larger
a little bit more video memory
a different video card NVIDIA 9600 compared to the ATI Radeon HD 3200 RS780M
it has bluetooth and wifi
1 EEE 1394 port
1 irefire port

I won't be playing much games, been using the PS3 for that and I may watch the occassional BlueRay movie. The main reason for a computer is surfing the net, email and word processing. I am interested in speed as well.

Thanks for any input with this request.

Core2Duo/Centrino wins out against Turion for the most part.
However it is not worth a 250 dollar difference.

You're not playing games or anything, and for normal work a Turion will be more than enough.

The 1270 has a dedicated video card, go for the 1270. There's one on ebay right now brand new for $1,100.00: HURRY!
