I have about 768MB of RAM in my system. A friend asked me to test a program out for him to see just how fast it would actually run. Unfortunately, he has only 128 meg of RAM and as a result I already know that the program will run faster in my computer. I understand that there is a way to configure the RAM usage without having to change the RAM chip.
I'm not sure the way to go about doing this although I thought it may be through the win.ini. Is there anyone that is familiar with this technique?
You cant configure that ammout of RAM windows uses, only the size of the pagefile (or virtual memory) this is a part of your hard disk that windows uses when it runs out of RAM(or when the files in memory wont be needed for a while).
I understand about the pagefile, but I know this can be done. It may be thu one of the *.ini files like win.ini or config.sys. I was just hoping that someone know's the file to use and the command.
Testing to see how your 768MB system would run if it had 128MB of memory? Referring to <A HREF="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833721" target="_new">/maxmem</A> switch?
