I have a Soundblaster Audigy 1 with a Creative 5.1 speaker set up. Whenever I play a DVD or Music disc it only plays it in 4 channel with the sub and nothing out of the centre. I have tried all the different settings and even tried a different program. Also if I switch the settings to SPDIF Windows Xp takes a memory dump. I can play Call of Duty in 5.1 but when I play Doom 3 in 5.1 it makes a crackling background noise. Can anybody help me please.

I know your probably not going to like this idea but have you updated the drivers. Creative's new drivers usually fix a lot of isssues especially with regards to games that use surround sound. If you already have updated your drivers then try going into Windows XPs audio options and check that the speakers are on 5.1 Also check Creative's speaker setting application (sometimes even tho XP is on 5.1 Creative's will be stuck on stereo and will override XP's setting).

If that doesn't help check the actual DVD program's settings. Sometime's the DVD's speaker settings are not always synchronised with Windows settings.

Hope this helps
