I have an Advent P4 2.4ghz laptop that i purchased primarily for audio..
My problem is this.. when i use the laptop on battery alone the audio is crystal clear..However when i attach the power adaptor it sounds like a boeing 747 :-p.. There is an awful humming/buzzing from the audio out.. especially during mouse movement/hd access..
Even if i mute all recording/playback options the noise is still there.. i take it that this could be due to bad earthing/shielding within the laptop..
Make sure your power brick is plugged into a polarized and grounded receptical.
Try different recepticals in your home or in a different building. (at work)
You might try a good surge suppressor too. A quality APC or Tripp Lite one that has good clamping circuits in it. (the $7.95 K-Mart breaker bars don't count )
I have the same problem. Whenever the AC adapter is plugged into my Evo N610c, a really irritating ringing/humming noise comes from the left side of the notebook. I dont know what to do about it.
Another question: Does anyone know how to get into the bios on this machine? what function key is it?
Another question: How can I partition my drive if the stupid restore CD's dont ask me if I want to partition? I'd rather have gotten a plain copy of XP rather than Compaq's "enhanced" restore CD's.
