However, seeing that as the r3000 is a commonly problematic notebook, and they're known to have their power jacks come loose from the motherboard (is that your issue?), I would have to say you need a new power jack. Is it a round, coaxial type, or a different, more square looking jack? (one of the compaqs of this era and near that model type use them, which is really a pain..you can't get those jacks anywhere.)
