i am going to build a comp in a few months mostly for gaming, autocad work (2d and 3d), and some photoshop stuff, so it needs to be pretty high end (which i am planning on) but i was wondering which would be better: a wd 250 gb (or w/e is close to that) SATA or EIDE wd 250...also how would i boot from a SATA drive if that is a better choice??

Either will do you fine, but I'd recommend the SATA just for future-proofness. You can always stick it in a new computer a few years from now.

To boot from that drive just go into the BIOS of your motherboard and set it in the boot order. Simple.

WD gives the same performance for SATA and EIDE drive which are otherwise the same. I recommend the EIDE for backwards compatability, in case your system goes down and you're forced to use one without SATA.

There is no real performance differance between SATA and IDE. Like Crashman said backwards compatiability would be nice, especially if something does go wrong. As for the future, I don't see IDE disappearing anytime soon, right now 98% (maybe 99%) of optical drives are IDE, and there doesn't seem to be a strong push to go SATA.
