Well, the results for this year's IntroComp are in. In year's
past, we've always announced the winners live from the auditorium
on IFmud (site of the slightly-better-known-than-IntroComp Xyzzy
Awards), but this year I'm slammed with, well, real life things.
One of those real life things is a lack of Internet access at my
home and, given that I live in rural Alaska, there are no real
guarantees that my situation will change in the next few days,
making it impossible to plan a ceremony. Oh, and then there are
these IF authors that keep e-mailing me wanting to know how they
did in the comp! (I'm kidding, folks... your curiosity is very
understandable, and your patience thus far admirable.)

And so, with a tinge of disappointment, I have decided to forego
the awards ceremony and announce the winners here on the news
groups. My sincere apologies if this disappoints others as well;
perhaps next year we'll get back to forming a great tradition.

Before I proceed, let me take a moment to thank Eileen Mullin
and XyzzyNews for sponsoring the comp, hosting the game files,
creating the voting form, and compiling votes. Thanks to Dan
Shiovitz for posting for me during my Internet absence. Thanks
to the writers who entered the competition, and everyone who
downloaded, played, and voted for their favorite introductions.
And, finally, thanks to my step father, Rick, who submitted my
votes due to the lack of Internet.

And now, with those little administrative bits out of the way
(assuming you didn't merely scroll down to the winners), it is
my extreme pleasure to announce the results of this year's
IntroComp:

1st place: Intro to Jabberwocky, by Gregory Weir

2nd place: Auden's Eden, by Tommy Herbert

3rd place: Passenger, by Niall Richard Murphy

Other entries, in no particular order, were:

Runes, by Deane Saunders
The Homework of Little Carl Gauss, by Stefano Gaburri
A Bet's A Bet, by Santa's Helper
On the Cross, by Ian Kaleb

Thanks, everyone, for another successful IntroComp! And now,
a note to Gregory, Tommy, and Niall: you have until July
18, 2005 to complete these wonderful introductions. We look
forward to their completion, and I look forward to handing
over your cash.

Regards,
Jacqueline A. Lott

The waters of Usenet were once rich in posters. Then the Usenet
trawlers set their nets and devastated the population, leaving
the ecology in serious imbalance.

Thank you Eileen, Jacqueline and voters. And well done to the other
entrants, especially Gregory. I knew when I was beta-testing it that
that intro was good! Full version of Auden's Eden will follow.
