Hello

I am a new user of this forum, so hello everyone, and I am also an "happy" user of the compaq R3000 with a defective power cord :-(

It seems that when I stress the connector a little bit I can get enough power going to the motherboard, but as this can't be an end solution, I just buy a connector on ebay and plan to change it like some of you.

But things gone worst now and I also get an HDD detection issue !!! (Compaq must be an old name for devil ;-) )

Sometimes Xp works several hours and finally just crash and when I try to reboot the hdd is no more detected in the BIOS (as shown when trying to do short & long hdd test in the bios). I have tried to power off the laptop, remove the battery and then to restart without more success !!

note that the Hdd is ok in a usb external caddy, and that I get same issue with another hdd !

I thought that the ide chipset could have been damaged due to the power issue (switching to ac power and battery mode to much time !) but I can boot with the DVD drive without problems). Maybe the DVD drive is not handled by same electronics parts ... I also plan to solder again the hdd connector to confirm that I do not get a bad soldering here...)

Does someone already get some IDE issues like that coming with the power cord issue ?

Any feedbacks will be appreciated !
regards
