dumb usb keyboard

Aside from the other little bugs (like getting my 2200+ to act like one, not a 1600) i can't get my keyboard to work. It's a Emachines, since i'm basically just swapping in a new mobo and power supply, and i cna't get it to work. It just gives me a regestry error every time i boot up, while a little hotkey keyboard program box is in the taskbar below. What did i do wrong?
I'm using a standard keyboard just fine. The USB doesn't light up or ANYTHING.

Does the keyboard work in the BIOS?
Have you tried reinstalling/uninstalling any software that came with the keyboard? (you shouldn't need extra software to use a usb keyboard)
